Re-Entry Backpack Supply Drive

  • Storrs Community Church 90 Tolland Turnpike Coventry, CT, 06238 United States (map)

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ - Matthew 25:37-40

Through our partnership with Community Partners in Action (CPA) here in CT, we seek to extend Matthew 25 compassion to people who are leaving prison after serving their sentences and to help them make a new start. When people leave prison, they are often without the most basic resources that would enable them to make a successful transition— rather than fall back into re-offending. CPA helps facilitate that fresh start by gifting Re-Entry Backpacks filled with basic supplies.

Starting February 23rd, we are inviting everyone to fill a shoebox (or shoebox-sized plastic storage box) with items from the Re-Entry Backpack List and bring it in to church.

Kids from our Children’s Ministry program will be participating in the drive as well! This project gives them the opportunity to put what they are learning this month (working together toward the greater good, Jesus loves everyone and the story of Nehemiah’s Wall) into action— concluding with a recreation of Nehemiah’s Wall! Can you guess what the “bricks” will be??

Thank you for caring for “the least of these”!
