Mission, Vision & Beliefs

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. - Micah 6:8

    Wake up to God's Love

Storrs Community Church offers a spiritual home where all are welcome to explore faith issues, ask questions, voice doubts and be who they are, without pressure to conform or embarrassment because they don’t believe quite like everyone else.

    Step Out in Service

We seek to be a catalyst for faith in action here in Connecticut and around the world. We seek to live lives that proclaim the gospel through our words and actions, by cultivating hope and healing, by reflecting Christ’s redeeming love in our day-to-day lives and by partnering with others to relieve suffering in the world.

    Grow in Christ

We envision a growing, vibrant, gospel church that enhances the quality of life for our community:
    - as individuals come to know Christ.
    - as relationships are strengthened.
    - as hopes are addressed and hurts are healed.
    - as we live as authentic disciples in our various vocations.

We are surrounded by people who are spiritually hungry and searching, but are unsure where to turn. They have grown up in a world where God is irrelevant and with a church that is indistinguishable from the surrounding culture. Refusing to lay aside their longing or be boxed in by easy answers, today’s seekers are in the “borderlands of faith.” Our call is to live the gospel humbly and authentically. To seek unity in a culture that seeks to divide. As a Missional Church we ground our identity in the “sending” nature of God (Jn. 20:21).  We view mission, not only as something the church does but also something the church is.

We see our church community as being sent for the wider community we live in. Our vocation is to bring the gifts of our congregation to meet the needs of the world.   As a “Grace” community we are an informal, accepting, non-judgmental, and caring place to “detox” from negative past religious experiences. We are relational and sensitive to each other. Our leadership is consistent, hard-working, generous with time and resources. We seek egalitarian leadership with every person having equal say and weight.

We are a community soaked in, and guided by, the Scriptures. A “Gospel” church rather than a “Bible” church. This is a place where you will be challenged but not pressured. Whether it is a Women’s retreat or a building, we love a project. Our vision is in the air we breathe, it is intuitive rather than told and sold. We hope you will join us.

BELIEFS

Scripture

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that it constitutes the final authority in all matters about the Christian faith and practice.

The Trinity

We believe that there is only one God, who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The whole essence of God belongs equally to each of the three persons. They are co-equal and co-eternal.

Jesus

We believe in the deity of Christ, his virgin birth, his sinless life, his miracles, his atonement by death on the cross, his bodily resurrection, and his personal return in power at the end of time. Our relationship with God has eternal and everyday implications.

Humanity

We believe every person is created in the image of God to enjoy fellowship with him, but that sin separates us from God. Each person needs a restored relationship with God through the forgiveness offered and secured by Jesus Christ. Our relationship with God has eternal and everyday implications. Loving others begins with respecting and protecting the dignity of all. We are committed to racial equality and to confronting racial inequalities wherever they exist. The Church

We believe that God gathers us together as a church to celebrate his goodness, lives with us and gifts us through the Holy Spirit to extend his work on earth and give visible expression to his love and mercy.

“Unity in essentials, liberty in non-essentials, and in all things charity.”

- Rupert Meldenius
